Love

by Czeslaw Milosz

Love means to look at yourself

The way one looks at distant things

For you are only one thing among many.

And whoever sees that way heals his heart,

Without knowing it, from various ills--

A bird and a tree say to him: Friend.

Then he wants to use himself and things

So that they stand in the glow of ripeness.

It doesn't matter whether he knows what he serves:

Who serves best doesn't always understand.

每一個人都有自己的故事;

Rainer Maria Rilke

Love is at first not anything that means merging, giving over,

and uniting with another...

it is a high inducement to the individual to ripen,

to become something in himself,

to become world,

to become world for himself and another's sake.

(an adorable ripe, old man!)

~I would like to dedicate these words to my dad on Father's Day

he is the most selfless person I know

someone who has dedicated his life to serving his family, friends, and country

he has taught me that love makes the world go round

without love, there is nothing--

in the end,

there is only love...
